Overview

Avon Will Advance Equity & Investmentin South & West Altanta

Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI), purchased a 9.3 +/- acre site in the Oakland City neighborhood located at the corner of Avon Avenue and Murphy Avenue. This acquisition furthers ABI’s and Invest Atlanta’s commitment to investment into the southside and westside neighborhoods along the Atlanta BeltLine and to the advancement of strategic objectives around economic development and housing.

The site is roughly 0.5 miles north of the Oakland City MARTA station, 0.4 miles south of the Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail, and 0.8 miles from the segment of Southside Trail currently under construction. Nearby existing and emerging developments include Pittsburgh Yards, the Met, and Lee + White.

Site History and Background

The warehouse was constructed for Chrysler Motor Parts Company, which reportedly occupied the site until the early 1980’s.

  • The original 100,000 SF warehouse fronting Murphy Avenue was constructed between 1938 – 1949.
  • The upper level of the main warehouse, lower-level basement, and office section was added in 1949 – 1950.
  • The Georgia Building Authority took ownership in 1985 and used the warehouse as a storage facility until Invest Atlanta purchased in 2020.
  • The Georgia Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped/Accessible Services also occupied the office section of the building, but the timeline for when is unclear.
